The MIT Sloan application consists of 2 essay questions and one optional video essay. Angie applied in 2013-2014 and was waitlisted after her interview. She decided not to pursue getting off the waitlist after deciding to take an offer of admission from another MBA program. See the longer descriptions for details of each essay question and a preview of Angie's answers. We've included Angie's resume so you can see how she formatted it and quantified results.

Essay 1: The mission of the MIT Sloan School of Management is to develop principled, innovative leaders who improve the world and generate ideas that advance management practice.  Discuss how you will contribute toward advancing the mission based on examples of past work and activities.   (500 words or fewer, limited to one page)

The last gift I ever expected from the Dhaka garment factory was my own portrait lasered onto a denim square.  Two years later and after 1,000+ Bangladeshi garment workers have perished, that framed face hangs from my cubicle wall, asking:  “What are you doing to improve labor conditions globally? “............

Essay 2: Describe a time when you pushed yourself beyond your comfort zone. (500 words or fewer)

Sometimes, going beyond your comfort zone means trying something new – skydiving, bungee-jumping, public-speaking.  To me, it meant giving something up.
